• COVID-19: Governor Obiano raises alarm over spike in cases

    Amid the battle against the second wave of coronavirus , Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state on Friday, January 8, expressed worry over rising COVID-19 infections.

    The governor in a statement by C-Don Adinuba, the state commissioner for information, said if the increase is not arrested it will produce a catastrophic result in the future.

    Premium Times reports that Obiano appealed to residents of the state to protect themselves from the pandemic, adding that as of Friday, the confirmed number of cases in the state stood at 364.

    He also expressed shock that in spite of the deaths of some high-profile Nigerians most people still doubted the disease.

    Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that following the second wave of the coronavirus, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has expressed worry that the presentation of fake test results by Nigerians travelling abroad tarnished the country’s image.

    The chairman of PTF and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), expressed the worry at a briefing by the task force in Abuja on Thursday, January 7.

    The PTF directed private laboratories to put in place measures to validate results and ensure that all passengers are registered on the travel portal before samples are processed.

    In a related development, the federal government said there will be repercussions for Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and government

    officials who flout travel protocols as Nigeria battles the second wave of coronavirus.

    The warning was issued by the national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, who declared that the authorities will clamp down on officials for failing to obey travel protocols including undergoing compulsory COVID-19 tests after returning to the country.
